Grilled Portuguese Chicken

Grilled Portuguese chicken, also known as "Frango de Churrasco" in Portuguese, is a popular and flavorful dish from Portugal. It is a delicious and aromatic grilled chicken preparation that is loved for its tangy and spicy flavors.
To make grilled Portuguese chicken, the chicken is typically marinated in a blend of spices and seasonings. The marinade often includes ingredients such as garlic, paprika, oregano, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper. The chicken is then left to marinate for several hours or overnight, allowing the flavors to penetrate the meat.
Once marinated, the chicken is grilled over an open flame or on a barbecue, which imparts a smoky and charred flavor to the meat. Traditional Portuguese chicken is often cooked on a charcoal grill, as it adds an authentic taste to the dish.
During grilling, the chicken is frequently basted with the remaining marinade or a flavorful sauce, such as piri-piri sauce. Piri-piri is a spicy sauce made from African bird's eye chili peppers, and it adds a fiery kick to the chicken. However, the level of spiciness can be adjusted according to personal preference.
The chicken is cooked until it reaches a juicy and tender texture, with crispy skin on the outside. It is usually served with accompaniments like grilled vegetables, rice, or potatoes. In Portugal, it is common to find grilled Portuguese chicken being served with a side of "piri-piri" sauce for additional heat and flavor.
Grilled Portuguese chicken is a popular dish in Portuguese cuisine and has gained international recognition. Its flavorful marinade, smoky grilled taste, and spicy notes make it a favorite among chicken lovers and those seeking a taste of Portuguese cuisine.
